On Mission TeamOur church has recently started to truly engage its members with mission trips. We have found that it helps the missionaries as much as it does the 'lost souls' to whom they are sent.
The On Mission Team exists to facilitate the church as it strives to fulfill Jesus' command to "go therefore, and make disciples of all nations..." (Matthew 28:19a) Our goal is to lead the church to pray for missions, give to missions and go on mission. Once again following Christ's command in Acts 1:8; "... and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, In all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Missions opportunities have included trips to Arkansas, Michigan and, most recently, Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota. We are interested in seeing more of our church members go outside the United States to serve. Erven Avenue was pleased to help send pastor Curtis Starner to the Dominican Republic in 2010. Baptist WomenAt Erven Avenue, the WMU promotes missions. We are involved in ongoing projects that reach our Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the world.
In Streator (our Jerusalem), we help underprivileged children with school supplies and winter clothing. We help provide transportation to and from church and offer breakfast on Sunday mornings to these children. We have also ministered to people in nursing homes by providing them with laps robes and walker covers. In Illinois (our Judea), we help promote the Illinois Missions Offering. We assist other churches with projects that they may need help with as well as minister to missionaries home on furlough. In the United States (our Samaria), we have joined other church members on mission trips to Arkansas, Michigan and Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota. We also promote the Annie Armstrong Easter offering which goes to help support missionaries throughout the United States. Finally, in our world, we help promote the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering to provide for our foreign missionaries and their work. |
